Frequently Asked Questions

Why do EV charging points need protection?

Chargers are typically positioned at the front of a bay, directly in the path of reversing and manoeuvring vehicles, making them vulnerable to impact damage. A single collision can disable a charger and the costs of replacement units and call-out charges can add up quickly.

Fitting a barrier shields the unit and increases its visibility to drivers approaching the bay. Many insurers now require some form of physical protection for higher-value chargepoints.

What type of protection do I need?

Fixed hooped barriers are the most common choice, as they surround the charger and can absorb impact from multiple directions. They are installed either side of the unit, leaving the screen and sockets accessible for users.

In situations where a full hoop isn't practical, fixed bollards placed at the edges of the bay can offer similar protection. Adding a wheel stop alongside either option provides an extra layer of defence, preventing vehicles from getting close enough to make contact.

Do you install EV charging point protection?

Yes, but the process varies depending on the product and the fixing requirements differ. Our professional installation team operates throughout South East England, including London, Essex, Kent, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, and the wider Home Counties. Installations in other parts of the UK can be arranged through our network of trusted subcontractors.

Contact our team to discuss your site requirements.

What should be considered before installing EV charger protection?

Protection barriers are installed around equipment that is already in use, so a few factors should be checked in advance:

  • Fixing Method: Bolt-down models are suitable for existing concrete or tarmac, while concrete-in versions offer greater strength on new surfaces.
  • Cable Runs: Charger supply cables are usually buried near the unit, so the barrier must be positioned to avoid them.
  • Clearance: Ensure there is enough space for drivers to access the screen, sockets, and cable holster without obstruction.
  • Bay Access: Accessible bays require a clear zone alongside the vehicle, which the barrier must not interfere with.
  • Visibility: Options include galvanised, stainless steel, and coloured finishes, so choose one that contrasts clearly with the surrounding surface.
