Start by working backwards from the number of bikes you need to store. Each shelter in our range is available in a range of sizes, so choose the one that matches your capacity on the product page.

Also, allow roughly two metres of clear space in front of each row to ensure people can easily wheel bikes in and out without bumping into each other. In tight spaces, angling the stands or installing a two-tier system can increase capacity without increasing the footprint.

If a cover isn't needed, our bike racks and stands provide a simpler alternative.

A cycle shelter is a permanent structure, so some preparation is essential:

Base: Most shelters are bolted onto a level, solid surface such as concrete or tarmac, which may need to be laid first.
Location: Position the shelter near an entrance and in view of occupied windows, as visibility significantly reduces the risk of theft.
Lighting: Well-lit shelters are safer to use at night and may be a requirement under certain security standards.
Planning Permission: Larger or street-facing shelters may require approval, especially in conservation areas. It's advisable to check with your local authority.
Access: Ensure there is enough space around the structure to allow for easy bike access and to accommodate deliveries or collections without disruption.
