Automatic rising bollards involve more groundwork than manual posts, as the unit needs a power supply, drainage, and space for the mechanism below ground. Considerations include:

• Electrical Connection: A qualified electrician will need to run a cable from your property to the bollard and its control panel.  
• Drainage: Water must drain away from the ground sleeve, either through a gravel soakaway or a connection to an existing drain.  
• Underground Services: Pipes and wiring beneath the surface may limit where the unit can go, so a cable avoidance (CAT) scan should be carried out first.  
• Height and Diameter: Choose a size that suits the proportions of the area you're protecting.  
• Lighting: Some models come fitted with LED lights, making illuminated bollards particularly useful in the countryside or other dimly lit areas.  
• Power Cuts: Check that the bollard has a manual release so it can be lowered if the electricity fails.

If running power to the site isn't practical, manual telescopic bollards are a cost-effective alternative.
